A Celebration of Pets 2016

On October 2, 2016, we hosted what we hope will be an annual Celebration of Pets in the Verona Civic Center from 1 to 3pm.  We have always marked the first Sunday in October with a blessing of the animals, in honor of St. Francis, their patron.  This year, we planned something of broader appeal: an afternoon in the town square which allowed everyone to honor all their four-footed, winged, and finned friends by recognizing their importance in our lives and the joy they bring us each day.

There were fourteen pet-oriented services and businesses, such as animal shelters and fostering groups looking for homes for pets, as well as local doggie day care providers and pet-sitters, and artists and crafts-persons who create things for and about our pets.  Fr. Jerry offered pet blessings, and our table provided treats and water to four-legged creature, plus hot chocolate and water to their humans.  The event was a great way to celebrate all of God's creatures!
