The Outreach Commitee continues the tradition of the Angel Tree in the Fellowship Hall. This year we are collecting donations for Mark's Closet in Bloomfield. Needed items include gloves, hats and warm socks for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Please take a tag from the tree and return your gift by Tuessday, December 24. Any questions, speak with Catherine Tamasik or Mary Garland. For more information on Mark's Closet, click here (or see below)
The mission of “Mark’s Closet” is to provide Bloomfield students in need at every grade level with new or slightly used clothing and personal items under the guidance of the school’s faculty. Mark’s Closet was initiated by Bloomfield High School students in honor of Mark Groendyk, a graduate of Bloomfield High School, who was murdered in Texas in August 2016, trying to stop an intoxicated person from driving. Mark was 27 years old. The students formed Marks’ Closet to help BHS students in need of clothing and personal items.
In 2018, it came to the attention of the Bloomfield Chapter of UNICO that a young Bloomfield student was being bullied at school because of his shabby clothing. The Chapter president provided assistance to this boy and his family, and from this, was born the idea of extending Mark’s Closet beyond the High School, to Bloomfield elementary and middle school children who were unable to dress appropriately for school. Chapter members and friends donated and sorted clothing. Financial donations were used to purchase special clothing requests and materials to set-up closets in the schools.
Mark’s Closet currently serves students in all of the Bloomfield School District.
